The Olympic Games are a reflection of the true spirit of sports. It is one event that brings the whole of the world together. Though the Olympic Games had originated in Greece in 776 B.C it came to an end in the 339 A.D. In the modern era, it was frst revived by the Greeks again and then by a revered Frenchman named, Pierre Frédy, Baron de Coubertin. He formed an International Olympic Committee, which started supervising the activities of the Olympic Games since its revival in 1896. Athletics was the major sports that dominated the Olympics from its very beginning. The games were enriched by the addition of several sporting events over the years. In the forthcoming Beijing Olympics to be held in 2008, over 300 events from 28 disciplines will be held. Among these sports, cycling is a special one.
The cycle has been a mode for public transport for quite some time now. Having been invented in 1817, the cycle has undergone several constructional changes to become one of the most sleek means of transport as well. Cycling as a sport had been introduced in the Olympics since its very beginning. It is probably the only sport which has featured in all the Olympics since its revival. Though the programs of Cycling has varied, it presently includes Road Races, Track Races and mountain biking.

Road Racing was not a part of the Olympic Games in 1900, 1904 and 1908, other than these years, this particular cycling event has been a part of Olympics. When Olympics were revived in 1896, cycling was held on the original tracks of the Marathon. Riders traveledfrom Athens to Marathon and returned back.
Since its introduction in the Olympics, cycling has been dominated by the Europeans, specially by the Germans, East Europeans and the Italians. In the Forthcoming Beijing Olympics the events of cycling will be held in the Laoshan Biking Course, located in the Shijingshan district of Beijing. Road cycling though, will be held at the Urban Cycling Road courses.
